Indo-Oceanic Arts specializes
in art and artifacts from two very different areas of Indonesia. The
Asmat area in the southwestern swamp forest of West Papua and the Mamasa
area in the interior of Sulawesi.
ASMAT Our main focus in Asmat are ceremonial items as well as items carved for traditional purposes and everyday use. Contemporary items are becoming more of a focus due to the high quality pieces by contemporary woodcarvers with very individual styles. By playing a positive role in encouraging the ongoing development of creativity in Asmat culture today we can help smooth the transition into the global world. MAMASA The focus here is on ceremonial and traditional items. The Mamasa are very closely related to the Sa'dan Toraja but their art is often overlooked due to their relative isolation. We travel from village to village in each area, in Asmat by longboat or canoe and in Mamasa by foot. Purchasing each piece from the artist or his family and trying to get the background of each item. A percentage of the proceeds from each object goes back to benefit the people. We deal with many museums, galleries, dealers, and collectors as well. Please feel free to contact us for prices and additional information. www.asmat-artifacts.net Thank You Indo-Oceanic Arts |
